BALLET / CONTEMPORARY

Classical Ballet is the most traditional form of dance. Ballet teaches the student co-ordination, flexibility, strength and grace. Being a technically demanding style, Ballet bestows a discipline and synchronisation to enhance one’s technique for all styles of dance.
Shine has modified this traditional form of dance to adapt it to a more modern approach. Our Ballet Contemporary class still contains the traditional Classical Ballet warm-up and technique work. However the big twist comes within the routines that are taught and of course the music. Our Ballet Contemporary classes are a great blend of the old Classical Ballet with a new modern approach to include a less rigid form of dancing in which the exact precision of Classical Ballet technique can be substituted for a more interpretive fluid ease of movement. This type of fusion has been made popular on shows such as “So You Think You Can Dance.”
These classes begin with an extensive warm-up on the barre concentrating on skills such as turnout and posture. The class then moves to the centre room in which the techniques learnt at the barre are trained in conjunction with pirouettes, arabesques and leaps. A routine is then taught to both traditional and modern music, with a cool-down and stretch ending the class.
Within our Ballet/Contemporary style, we have different age groups to cater for our 6-18 year old students. We also have a 30 minute Pointe class for our older and more experienced students, which is offered only by invitation from Shine.
The Ballet/Contemporary classes participate in our End of Year Concert in which they are typically expected to perform in 2 concerts.
